    A Separation was not what I expected, but I ended up liking it once I got in the right head space. As described, this is a book about infidelity and a marriage that falls apart. But what surprised me was the way in which the topic is approached. It's a very subjective meditative piece written from the perspective of the unnamed wife/5(K). Her first book () was an answer to Gilbert Wakefield’s critique of the social worship of the Dissenters. Her second was Letters and Essays, Moral and Miscellaneous (), which took on issues such as women’s education, separation of church and state, and materialism and necessity. She also wrote for the Monthly Magazine.
